Assassins Creed: Valhalla had the franchises’ biggest launch yet, according to Ubisoft. Yep, even bigger than Odyssey.
The revelation was made during a recent company earnings call where it was claimed that Valhalla is the most successful Assassin’s Creed game to date.
Ubisoft apparently attributes this success to a shift in mechanics, leaning more towards a traditional RPG experience. This is a change that it claimed enticed more players to the franchise, leading to a massive boost in sales [via TheGamer].
Ubisoft also stated that Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla had reached new heights in terms of DLC sales, with more players engaging in microtransactions and digital add-ons. This is something players have complained about in the past, claiming that the game’s microtransactions are getting out of hand. Nevertheless, their inclusion doesn’t seem to have deterred players in terms of sales figures.
The publisher also discussed the performance of other games like Watchdogs: Legion and Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Watchdogs is apparently the company’s fourth best-selling game on consoles, while Immortals is sitting in seventh place. Just Dance was also discussed, which is also performing significantly well.
In terms of the company’s future lineup, Ubisoft has a bright future ahead of it. Despite some setbacks, such as delays to Far Cry 6 and the upcoming Prince of Persia remake, the publisher is likely going to continue to dominate the third-party market.
With rumours of a new Assassin’s Creed already starting to brew, as well as having a new Star Wars game in the works, it’s hard to imagine Ubisoft enduring anything other than triumph.
Ubisoft is a titan of today’s industry, so its financial success comes as no surprise. Its success throughout 2020 has earned it the accolade of being top third-party publisher, something made possible thanks to its robust lineup.
