BioShock Creator’s Next Game Has Entered ‘Later Stages’ Of Production

The next game from Ken Levine, creator of the beloved BioShock series, has “entered the later stages” of production according to a new job listing.

Few details are known about Levine’s next game, which is in development at the studio co-created by Levine, Ghost Story Games (formerly known as Irrational Games). Although details are thin on the ground, we do know the unnamed title will be an “immersive sci-fi game with RPG elements.” Sounds good to me!

As spotted by VGC, the listing in question states the following: “We’re dedicated to making immersive story driven games for gamers that like a challenge. The studio was founded by a group of former Irrational Games developers that involved the development and release of many games, including but not limited to System Shock 2, BioShock and BioShock Infinite.

“We’re working on a new immersive sci-fi game with RPG elements. We haven’t announced any details yet because we are still in later stages of production.”

Considering the popularity of the BioShock series, it’s a safe bet to say whatever we’ll be getting, we’re sure to be in for a treat.

In related news, job listings at Cloud Chamber, the studio now in charge of the next BioShock game, have revealed new details about its setting and what we can expect from the gameplay.

Along with hints that the game won’t be taking place in either Rapture or Columbia, a recent listing for an AI Gameplay Programmer mentions that the next BioShock is aiming to test the limits of its AI, potentially suggesting we’re going to be getting something we’ve never seen before in a video game.

“We think we are trying some new and ambitious things with AI in this game and we want someone comfortable with pushing the state of the art and experimenting with unproven ideas,” says the listing, before adding the successful applicant must believe in a “experimental approach to game development.”

Meanwhile, a listing for a Senior Audio Programmer explains that BioShock 4 (an unconfirmed title) will be a “strongly narrative and systemic game.”

Let’s hope we hear more on both the future of BioShock and Ken Levine’s next game sooner rather than later!
