Call of Duty 2023 will be a ‘full premium release’ according to Activision report

Call of Duty 2023 will be a full “premium” release, says Activision. However, there may be a twist in how that premium release is presented.

There has been chatter for some time that Call of Duty might not get a full retail release in 2023. If that happens, it will be the first time that the series has skipped a year since 2005. The last time this happened was between Call of Duty (2003) and Call of Duty 2 (2005).

Will we get a Call of Duty in 2023?

However, in October 2022 rumours were making the rounds that instead of a full release, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2022) would receive story DLC.

Furthermore, it was also claimed that it would also arrive with a 20th-anniversary map pack to celebrate two decades of Call of Duty. Some of those maps are said to be from the original Modern Warfare 2 of 2009.

However, video game journalist, Jason Schreier has added further validation to the rumours. Schreier responsed to a Twitter post from the CoD fan page, CharlieINTEL.

Which Intel do you trust?

Breaking: Activision’s new financial release seems to confirm there’s a new, full premium Call of Duty game in 2023,” tweeted CharlieINTEL.

The tweet continued: “with plans for next year including the most robust Call of Duty live operations to date, the next full premium release in the blockbuster annual series.” This information was taken from an Activision investor report, so it is official.

Yet, apparently, all might not be what it seems with the wording used by Activision Blizzard. That’s at least according to Jason Schreier.

It’s suggested by Schreier that the “full premium Call of Duty game in 2023” is simply a re-packaged Modern Warfare 2 with the previously rumoured story DLC and map pack.

Man lol you keep falling for the same PR language,” replied Schreier. “It’s a continuation of Modern Warfare II. It’s called a full premium release because they’re probably going to market and sell it as a $70 game with new single- and multiplayer content. But it’s more MWII.

To be fair to CharlieINTEL, it has often been a very reliable source of information when it comes to Call of Duty. That being said, what Schreier suggests in his reply to the tweet, does fall in line with the October 2022 rumours.
