Confirming previous rumours, Call of Duty Warzone 2 is officially arriving later this year. However, there is a catch for anyone who likes to unlock stuff.
Yesterday we were treated to the campaign reveal for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The follow-up to the Modern Warfare reboot of 2019. Following its reveal, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 was subtly announced.
Warzone 2.0 is on its way!
Details of Warzone 2.0 were revealed on the Call of Duty blog. “October 28 marks a new beginning for Call of Duty, starting with the release of Modern Warfare II,” confirms the post.
It continues: “Soon after, a wholly new Warzone will launch as an extension of the Modern Warfare II universe. With it comes new technology, new features, and new gameplay that work seamlessly together.
“Throughout, we have taken a wide range of community feedback to heart. In order to fully deliver this state-of-the-art experience, Warzone 2.0 will feature new Modern Warfare II content and systems with brand-new progression and inventories.”
The blog post also confirms that Warzone 2.0 will continue to be a separate experience as a standalone free-to-play battle royale. Warzone 2.0 will also remain cross-platform.
There is a catch, however. Progression from the first Warzone will not carry over. So all of your weapon unlocks, skins and other cosmetics will not be available in Warzone 2.0. If you’ve spent a lot of time collecting up all these assets, you will still be able to use them in the original Warzone, but will be starting afresh in the new game.
Will Warzone 2.0 be bigger and better?
In related Call of Duty news, last month the map for Warzone 2.0 was apparently leaked by an industry insider, Tom Henderson. If rumours are true, the Warzone 2.0 map will be even bigger than the original.
If you want to see more of the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, then fear not, because there’ll be another reveal at the Summer Game Fest later today!
