CD Projekt Red has announced that a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is in the works. However, expect to wait years for its arrival.
“Orion is a codename for our next Cyberpunk game, which will take the Cyberpunk franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe,” tweeted CDPR.
Does the sequel have a release date?
No, at this time, Cyberpunk 2077 Orion does not have a release date nor does it have a release window. Cyberpunk 2077 was initially announced in 2012. However, the sci-fi RPG did not arrive until 2020 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Additionally, its native new-gen ports for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S did not arrive until 2022. Based on those factors alone, we could be waiting quite a few years until the sequel releases. Also, given that release is likely many years away, PS4 and Xbox One ports can be ruled out.
Furthermore, we all know how much of a poor state Cyberpunk 2077 launched in, especially for PS4 and Xbox One. So hopefully, with that in mind, CD Projekt Red will take its time and only release the sequel when it’s good and ready.
Cyberpunk 2077 is getting an expansion
In related CDPR news, the first and only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 was recently announced with Phantom Liberty. The expansion will release in 2023 for PC, PS5 as well as Xbox Series X|S. It will not be released for last-gen consoles.
Along with the announcement that a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is on the way, CD Projekt Red also announced that two more Witcher games are in the works. That’s in addition to the other new Witcher game that was announced earlier in 2022.
