Update 16/12/22: It’s official, Henry Cavill will star and produce a Warhammer 40K live adaptation. In collaboration with Games Workshop, Amazon will finance both movies and TV series as part of a “Warhammer Cinematic Universe.“
“For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action,” announced Cavill in an Instagram post. We may not be seeing Cavill as Superman, but at least he finally has some great news to celebrate this week.
However, as part of the DCEU shake-up by James Gunn and Peter Safran, Cavill’s sequel was cancelled. Worse still, this was just a few weeks after it was announced.
Cavill is known to be a huge fan of the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop franchise, so if reports are true, it could literally be a dream job for the popular English actor. In an article from The Hollywood Reporter, it is claimed Cavill “is attached to star and executive producer” the live-action adaptation from Amazon.
Amazon is said to be in the final discussions
It is also said that Amazon: “is in final talks for the rights to the game, produced by Games Workshop, after months of negotiations and fending off rival companies that also sought the rights.”
Obviously, we should always take rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, while the wound of the Superman sequel being cancelled is still fresh, we can’t help but be happy for Henry Cavill if this project comes to fruition.
