Most anticipated overall games of 2023 and beyond so far

Here are the most anticipated overall games of 2023 and beyond so far as this year promises to be another great year for gaming!

So, with my best efforts, I’ve compiled a list of my most anticipated overall games of 2023 and beyond.

Of course, there are loads of video games set to arrive in 2023, so not all of them made this list. I mean otherwise…we’d be here all day.

2023 will be a great year for gaming!

Also, in case you’re wondering, this list features no exclusive titles. We have separate PlayStation, PSVR2, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2023 lists for those.

That being said, here are my most anticipated overall games of 2023 and beyond (so far):

Resident Evil 4 remake (PC/PlayStation/Xbox Series X|S)

When Resident Evil 4 was first released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2005, it quickly became the best in the RE series for some. In fact, some might even say it’s their best game of all time.

However, on the flip side, it can also be considered the spark of a downward trajectory for the series which morphed Capcom’s “survival horror” series into something more akin to action games with the releases of RE5 and RE6.

Though, despite not being scary whatsoever, I still have fond memories of Resident Evil 5.

Then in 2017, we had the release of Resident Evil 7 which brought back the horror, followed by remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 as well as Resident Evil Village.

While there are a lot of action segments in the three later games, the RE series was back on track.

Following countless rumours and speculation, the Resident Evil 4 remake was finally announced by Capcom. The trailers that we’ve seen so far have arguably heightened expectations and excitement.

It remains to be seen whether Capcom will adopt a more action-oriented approach that was introduced with the original RE4 in 2005 or perhaps they’ll lean more into the horror genre with the remake.

I’m hoping for the latter. The RE4 remake is without question one of the most anticipated games of 2023.

The Resident Evil 4 remake will release for PC, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S on March 24th, 2023.

Dead Space (PC/PS5/Xbox Series X|S)

Experience a new-gen sci-fi horror!

Speaking of remakes, early 2023 is sure to be a great start to the year for horror fans, not only with the Resident Evil 4 remake but also with the Dead Space remake.

When the original Dead Space was released in 2008, it became an instant horror classic.

It was inspired by movies such as the Alien(s) franchise, The Thing and Event Horizon led by the then silent protagonist, Isaac Clarke.

The Dead Space remake is being built from the ground up, not by Visceral Games (which no longer exists), but by EA’s new studio, Motive.

It is said to be a shot-for-shot recreation of the original with some surprises and deviations thrown in to keep OG and new players on their toes.

It will also have one loading sequence as you begin your horror adventure. This means that you’ll explore the USG Ishimura and all its horrors seamlessly from start to finish. That’s unless you die of course, which let’s be honest, is very likely.

The Dead Space remake is out now for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Like a Dragon: Ishin (PC/PlayStation/Xbox)

YouTube video

Like a Dragon: Ishin is a spin-off to the Yakuza series from SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. In fact, this year’s entry is a remake of Yakuza: Ishin which was only released in Japan way back in 2014.

After nearly 10 years, this is a game that fans of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series have longed for in the west, but never thought would happen.

Alas, in September 2022, Like a Dragon: Ishin was announced and finally the wait will soon be over.

Set during the 1860s in a fictionalised version of Kyoto, Like a Dragon: Ishin will feature the familiar faces that we know and love from the Yakuza franchise.

However, in a twist of events, our beloved faces will be playing different characters.

Like a Dragon: Ishin will be released on February 21st, 2023 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Alan Wake 2 (PC/PS5/Xbox Series X|S)

The original Alan Wake was released in 2010 following several years in development hell.

While not a perfect game, it had a certain unique charm and fans have longed for a sequel ever since. Many thought that day would never come. That was until Alan Wake 2 was announced in December 2021.

Little is known about Alan Wake 2 because at the time of writing. As of yet, we’ve only been treated to a live-action, cinematic trailer. What we do know though is that it will follow the events of the first game.

However, developers Remedy Entertainment has stated that new players will not have to experience the original game to understand the sequel.

What’s more, while the original game had plenty of horror moments, it was very much an action game. However, Alan Wake 2 is described as a survival horror, rather than an action-horror game.

At this time, Alan Wake 2 doesn’t have a set release date, but we do know that it will release for PC (Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2023. That’s assuming it suffers no delays, of course.

Dead Island 2 (PC/PlayStation/Xbox)

Dead Island 2 has been a long time coming!

To say we’ve been waiting years for Dead Island 2 is an understatement.

First announced at E3 2014, you’ll find no better example of “developmental hell” than Dead Island 2. It’s suffered countless delays and has been passed around to multiple developers.

Alas, Dead Island 2 is finally in the hands of UK-based Dambuster Studios and we know for sure that it’s releasing in 2023.

Dead Island 2 promises an expansive open world set in Los Angeles where the dead have brought hell upon Earth.

Dead Island 2 looks like it will bring over-the-top gore, slapstick comedy, expansive weapon crafting, co-op action and so much more.

Hopefully, Dead Island 2 will live up to the expectations when it releases for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on April 28th, 2023.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (PC/PS5/Xbox Series X|S)

YouTube video

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order wasn’t a perfect game when it was released in 2019. However, it was obvious this was a game crafted by Respawn Entertainment with the love of the franchise.

Set five years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, Fallen Order told the story of Cal Kestis, one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy.

First announced in January 2022, we were first treated to a gameplay trailer for the sequel in December 2022, and it did not disappoint.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor features a more grizzled and wiser Cal with the Empire still hot on his heels.

Cal is also still accompanied by his trusty BD-1 droid. It also promises to improve on its predecessor’s gameplay, and with it being a new-gen title, it will also look and perform better than ever.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released on March 17th, 2023.

Street Fighter 6 (PC/PlayStation/Xbox Series X|S)

Soon, more people can play Street Fighter!

We love Street Fighter 5, but when it was released for PC and PS4 only, it excluded a lot of its loyal fanbase. Street Fighter 5 was never available on Xbox One due to funding and a deal made between Sony and Capcom.

Alas, when Street Fighter 6 was announced in February 2022 it was confirmed to be cross-platform with rollback netcode. It will also be powered by the RE Engine, the software that has provided the umph for recent Resident Evil entries.

Street Fighter 6 not only brings character creation for the first time in the series but also three main modes. Fighting Grounds is where you’ll find your typical offline and online modes. World Tour is the story campaign, and Battle Hub is an online lobby mode where players can mingle and socialise together.

Street Fighter 6 will release for PC, PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X|S on June 2nd, 2023.

There you have it, there is my list of the most anticipated overall games of 2023 and beyond (so far). Be sure to let us know what you’re most excited to play in 2023 across our social media channels.
