It’s rumoured that streaming giant Netflix is considering yet another spin-off of its popular live action series, The Witcher.
The rumour comes from known Witcher leaks site Redanian Intelligence, where a reliable leaker has allegedly claimed a second spin-off series is being considered by the Netflix top dogs.
According to the publication, tentative talks are in place at the streaming service, which is apparently considering a Witcher series which delves into the history of mages and sorcerers (you’ll probably remember that Yennefer is, of course, sorceress).
While the news is unconfirmed at the time of writing, if true, it would be the second spin-off series of The Witcher, following the upcoming prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin.
An animated movie, Nightmare of The Wolf, which will focus on Geralt’s mentor Vesemir, has also been announced by Netflix.
Not too much is known about either Blood Origin or Nightmare of The Wolf, but we do know a little about both of the upcoming releases.
The Netflix prequel Blood Origin was announced earlier this summer following the success of the The Witcher’s first season in late 2019. Sharing the news on Twitter at the time, the official social media account for Netflix explained the series will take place 1200 years before we meet our hero Geralt of Rivia, so don’t expect the same cast or even a similar story.
“1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be,” reads the cryptic Netflix description.
The six part series will come from Declan de Barra and The Witcher showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich.
Meanwhile, Nightmare of The Wolf will be an animated movie, and was announced in January this year.
The official Netflix account shared the following statement: “The rumors are true, a new Witcher story is in the works! The anime film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, will take us back to a new threat facing the Continent. Brought to you by the Witcher team @LHissrich and @BeauDeMayo, and Studio Mir the studio behind Legend of Korra.”
