A Silent Hill announcement is 100% happening this week! Yes, this is not a drill, Konami has officially announced the news.
For years, the return of Silent Hill has been rumoured.
Countless leaks, usually prior to The Game Awards, sends fans into bursts of excitement. Only to be let down time after time.
However, we can now rest easy knowing we’re finally getting the announcement we’ve been waiting for (hopefully).
“In your restless dreams, do you see that town?” tweeted the official Silent Hill social media channels.
Fans of the series will of course know that famous line from Silent Hill 2, a game considered by many to be one of the best horror games of all time.
Where can we watch the Silent Hill announcement?
At this time, Konami hasn’t officially stated exactly where we’ll be able to watch the “Transmission”.
However, seeing as this news was announced via Twitter and Facebook, the official Silent Hill channels would be a safe place to start.
In terms of when the reveal will take place, that happens this Wednesday at 2pm PT/5pm ET/10pm BST/11pm CEST.
What can we expect from the Silent Hill announcement?
As of right now, we don’t know for sure. Various rumours have suggested that Layers of Fear studio, Bloober Team will be developing a Silent Hill 2 remake.
However, other rumours have claimed that multiple Silent Hill projects are in the works including a fresh reboot as well as an episodic release.
Furthermore, other rumours claim that a new Silent Hill game will be a PlayStation exclusive. Some have even suggested that Hideo Kojima will let bygones be bygones and will collaborate with Konami once more.
However, I think it’s interesting that the official social media channels have changed the profile pictures with the Silent Hill logo featuring no number.
This is of particular interest due to the fact that the Silent Hill 2 remake has dominated the rumour mill for quite some time.
Should we be cautious?
Speaking as a lifelong Silent Hill fan that adores this series, I am excited that an official announcement is going to be made.
That being said, however, we have good reason to be cautious. For starters, there is the well-documented bitter departure of Silent Hill and Hideo Kojima over the P.T debacle.
The P.T fiasco led to the unceremonious cancellation of Silent Hills, a game that was to be produced by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro.
It was also set to star Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead and Death Stranding.
Furthermore, in recent years Konami has been known for not treating its beloved IPs with the respect they deserve.
Iconic brands such as Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid have been reduced to gambling pachinko machines. Also, let’s not forget about 2018’s Metal Gear Survive.
I believe it’s important not to have super high expectations for this week’s highly anticipated reveal.
That being said, as Silent Hill fans, this is something we’ve been waiting years for and we hope that Konami finally treats this IP with the respect that it deserves.
As a side note, I think it’s also worth mentioning that the forthcoming reveal this week has also been retweeted by Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka.
Ito was a lead designer of the original Silent Hill games, while Yamaoka was the composer.
Could this be a hint that the band is getting back together? Only time will tell.
What do you hope to see this week?
Personally, despite all the talk of the Silent Hill 2 remake, I really hope that the original PS1 game from 1999 gets the remake treatment first.
Let us know what you hope to see across our social media channels.
