Developer Aspyr Media has announced that cult-classic RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords is getting a rerelease and is coming to mobile devices this month.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 is the follow-up to BioWare’s 2003 original for the OG Xbox, which later came to PC and mobile devices.
However the Knights of the Old Republic sequel in question released just a year later in 2004 and was instead developed by Obsidian Entertainment, who is currently working on Xbox Series X|S exclusive Avowed.
For years fans have been calling for the classic RPG series to be remade and while there are no clear signs that fan requests will be fulfilled, this mobile port is probably the closest that we’re going to get to that happening right now.
This mobile port of Knights of the Old Republic 2 will likely have slightly improved visuals and hopefully an increased framerate performance to that of the 2004 release.
The developer Aspyr Media has stated that this port will be optimised for mobile devices, which at the very least means that the controls have likely been updated.
BioWare is already hard at work on the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition as well as a fifth main entry in the series, and Dragon Age 4 is set for a new reveal at The Game Awards this week.
In 2014 the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was also ported to mobile devices.
It is also worth mentioning that both of the original KOTOR games are backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, which both have increased HD resolutions and the framerates.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 will be released for Android and iOS devices on December 18th.
