The Last of Us 2 Won’t Have Multiplayer

One of the biggest surprises of The Last of Us was that, along with having a great single player, it also had a really fun multiplayer. Factions mode had quite a lot going for it and was always a pretty intense experience.

In the past it was reported that multiplayer would be making a comeback in Part 2. It would seem though that this is not the case. According to USGamer it was confirmed by multiple sources that the focus for The Last of Us Part 2 is purely single player.

Naughty Dog’s Lead Game Designer Emilia Schatz made it clear at the media event for the game that it was purely single player, with Sony re-confirming it to USGamer after the event too.

“We’re focusing on a single-player experience, so we’re just making a single-player game for this” is what Schatz stated during the event… which is definitely not what long term fans of Factions were wanting to hear.

We did at least get a release date for The Last of Us Part 2 though. Plus the game has been positively received in preview, so at least it’s going to be a good single player experience. Heck, it might even be great!

It’s also going to be a huge game from the sound of things. Stretching across two disks there’s every chance that the game could be bigger than the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2!

One thing we know for certain at least is that Troy Baker will be making a return as Joel. You can see our interview with Troy Baker from last years MCM Comic Con Manchester below, where we talk about a huge range of things from his career.
