Capcom has revealed its first look at the upcoming Resident Evil 8, which we now know to be called Resident Evil Village. (See how “Village” spells “VIII”? Clever, huh?)

In case you missed it, check out the first look trailer below!

The game’s official description, at this stage, simply reads: “Fear surrounds you in Resident Evil Village, unleashing a new chapter of survival horror on PlayStation 5 in 2021!”

The game takes place a few years after Resident Evil 7 biohazard with an all new story. The protagonist from 7, Ethan, appears again. His wife Mia and him are now living peacefully somewhere quiet and somewhere free from the horrors they experienced a few years back. As they’re building their new life though they find it quickly disrupted by an unlikely person. The legendary Resident Evil protagonist, Chris Redfield.

As Ethan tries to piece together what is going on and figure out what is causing a once peaceful village to descend into madness, all in a first-person viewpoint again, he’ll find himself greeted by new enemies never before seen in the Resident Evil franchise.

The first-person action in Resident Evil Village begins when players assume the role of a distraught and shattered Ethan as he seeks to uncover the mysterious new horrors that plague a once peaceful village. The game was also announced for PC and Xbox Series X.
