Fans Aren’t Impressed With GTA 5’s PlayStation Showcase Trailer

Fans aren’t impressed with the recent GTA 5 PlayStation Showcase trailer, and they’re letting Rockstar Games know about it.

By and large, I was very impressed with the PlayStation Showcase. We got a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 reveal, and even a new Marvel’s Wolverine game was announced. We also finally got to see gameplay for God of War: Ragnarok.

There were a fair few other reveals that got fans excited. However, there was one reveal that wasn’t received all that well, and that was GTA 5.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was first released in 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360. An enhanced version was then released in 2014 for PS4 and Xbox One. This enhanced edition looked nicer, it performed better, it even had gameplay improvements and more.

Last year it was also announced that GTA 5 would get another re-release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, originally slated to arrive on November 11th. From what I can tell, not a lot of fans called for this game and it’s likely that anyone that wanted to play GTA 5, probably already owns it by now.

Can you tell the difference?

So, with the fanbase already sceptical for this latest re-release, we were treated to a first proper look at the gameplay during the PlayStation Showcase, and it wasn’t great.

Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t look poor in my opinion, it just didn’t look new gen. In fact, if you put the PS4/Xbox One and PS5/Xbox Series X|S versions side by side, I’d struggle to tell the difference. And it seems that much of the gaming community share the same thoughts.

The down-vote ratio is immense

At the time of writing, the PlayStation Showcase trailer has over 91,000 down-votes and only 23,000 up-votes. I also can’t see a single positive word in the comments section of the video.

They didn’t even compare the “enhanced” graphics to the last gen because it would look exactly the same,” says Joey J.

This trash doesn’t have enough dislikes smh what a joke the game literally came out when I was 17 and I’m nearly 27 and this remaster must be the laziest thing I’ve ever seen,” said Jayjay Myers.

I was talking to a friend over the weekend about the PlayStation Showcase, and we both agreed that it’s hard to tell the difference of what’s new with this “enhanced” version of GTA 5. In the trailer, they spoke about a seamless transition when switching between characters. However, on the base PS4, this process is already quite seamless.

A seamless transition?

Furthermore, if you’re playing the last-gen version of GTA 5 on a new-gen console via backward compatibility, switching between characters is already quite seamless. There’s literally nothing that entices me with this new-gen port. Having already bought GTA 5 twice already (PS3 to PS4), I have no intentions of buying the game again.

To add insult to injury, it was even announced during the showcase event that GTA 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has been delayed by four months. Moving from November 2021 to March 2022.

No reason for the delay was given, but we can assume that it’s for polish and care. So, if Rockstar Games were aware that this port of GTA 5 needed extra polish, were they also aware that the game wasn’t looking as good as it should? If so, why did they show this trailer last week? We can only speculate.

Will Rockstar Games make the necessary improvements?

Let’s just hope that by the time GTA 5 releases next year for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it doesn’t leave a lot to be desired.
