Yakuza Like a Dragon series is apparently too violent for the Nintendo Switch, claims a producer at Ryu ga Gotoku Studio.
For years, fans have been itching for the Yakuza, sorry, Like a Dragon series to one day come to the Nintendo Switch. Sadly, that hasn’t happened yet and it might not ever happen at all.
Is Yakuza too violent for Nintendo Switch?
According to Yakuza producer at RGG Studio, Masayoshi Yokoyama believes that the series is unlikely to come to Nintendo’s console as it’s too violent. Yokoyama made the statement during an interview with GameSpot.
The producer claimed that the Yakuza (now Like a Dragon) series is not suited to the “family-friendly images of the Switch”. Furthermore, the Yakuza series is too “underground”, apparently.
Is Yakuza worse than Mortal Kombat?
Sure, the Yakuza series is violent, but a lot of its violence is slapstick. Plus, if Yokoyama believes that the series isn’t suited to the family-friendly nature of the Switch, why does it already have the likes of DOOM, Resident Evil, as well as Mortal Kombat? That’s just three examples that the Yakuza violence couldn’t hold a candle to, in terms of violence.
Reading between the lines, is porting the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series to the Switch too much hassle? Because saying the series is too violent is a difficult pill to swallow. It’s certainly an interesting take by Masayoshi Yokoyama.
