Here’s page 3 of our best PS2 games list!
11. TimeSplitters 2
If you ever had a PS2 and mates (sorry, gamers), chances are you have a memory of playing TimeSplitters at a gathering. While the story mode of TimeSplitters 2 isn’t particularly memorable, Arcade mode was all the rage for LAN parties and get-togethers. Even lacking an online component, the amount of deathmatching fun you can get in this game was unparalleled against some of its competitors. Multiplayer split-screen shooters don’t really hit the same vibe, even today, and it’s unlikely we’ll ever see something else like this. That is, until TimeSplitters 4.

12. GTA San Andreas
There are five GTA games on the PS2, and it’s hard to really nail down which one is the best. However, we’re going with San Andreas, as it’s easily the one most people vibe with. San Andreas took the popular gameplay from GTA 3 and Vice City and expanded it from a single city to rendering an entire state. Additionally, there was a bigger expansion of activities, missions and cars across the entire game, which made it a huge title to dig into throughout the middle of the PlayStation 2’s tenure.

13. God of War
The God of War series found a sort-of renaissance in recent years due to its big tonal shift in the PS4 soft reboot, but for a long time this was the king of action hack-and-slashes. Many even call it one of the best action PS2 games, hailing it for the combo-based combat and memorable story. Loosely based on Greek mythology, the game portrays the Spartan warrior Kratos as he sets out to kill Ares, the titular God of War. Unlike the reboot, the original game utilised a fixed camera that would best portray the carnage.

14. Final Fantasy X
Ten games in, the question of how on earth do you prevent the Final Fantasy series from becoming stale becomes quickly apparent. To start with, FFX was the first game in the series to move from pre-rendered backgrounds to fully 3D explorable spaces, and was also the first to feature voice acting. It also made some big improvements to inventory management, combat systems, and animations. But above all else, it had a plot, setting and characters that really resonated with the fans. To this day, Tidus and Yuna are still regarded as amongst the most popular JRPG characters of all time, while the story included complex writing and a satisfying ending as it avoided repeated genre clichés.

15. Kingdom Hearts
Fans will call this one of the best PS2 games ever, and for sure, Kingdom Hearts certainly is one of the wildest creations in gaming history. A partnership between Disney and Square Enix saw the birth of this titanic legend, which sees original characters crossover with familiar faces from the Disney and Final Fantasy universes. While it’s easy to dismiss this series for its timeline becoming confusing and hard to parse, the first entry to the series is actually fairly straightforward, and has a story that is far better than it has any right to be.
